TRY IT:

Factor 2x^2 - 4x

Factor 7x + 14x^2

The thing to remember on these is that, for something to be factored out, it has to be in EVERY term.

Here's something messier:

What can we factor out of this?

2 (x^2) (y^5) - 4 x (y^3) + 6 (x^4) (y^2)

Look at the numbers (coefficients) first:

a 2 comes out

Now, look at the x's:

x^2, x, x^4

They all have one x... So, an x comes out.

Finally, the y's:

y^5, y^3, y^2

They all have a y^2
