Long division with polynomials works the same way. You just have to deal with x junk along the way.

Let's walk through one:

( 2x^2 + 7x - 15 ) / ( x + 5 )

Set it up:

( 2x^2 + 7x - 15 ) / ( x + 5 ) ... the first thing we need to do is see how many times x goes into 2x^2

So, we are looking at  2x^2 / x

The easiest thing to do is to write it like

2x^2 / x ... reduce ... 2x ... put it on top of the division sign to give ( 2x^2 + 7x - 15 ) / ( x + 5 ) = 2x ...
