Variable
In Algebra, a
variable is the
letter in an
equation that
represents an unknown number.
Examples: 2x
+ 5
= 7
2x
- 3y
= 6
Vector
A vector is a ray that has a
magnitude (length) and a direction (which
way it's pointing.) Vectors are used a
lot in physics and navigation.
Vertex
On a
polygon, the
vertices (the
plural of vertex) are the corners.
In a
parabola, the
vertex is the
starting point. The
line that cuts
the parabola in
half (the
axis of symmetry)
goes right through the
vertex.
Vertical
A
vertical line is a line that goes up and
down... A vertical line
is
perpendicular to
the horizon.
Volume
Volume is the amount of space
inside of something like a
cube.
Volume is always measured using linear measurements
(like inches and centimeters) cubed to represent
three dimensions.
Example: For the
cube on the right, the volume is 75 cubic inches.
This means that you can fit 75 little one inch cubes
inside!
