Standard Parabola Guy:

y = x^2 - 3 ... - 3 ... shifts down 3

* shifts 3 towards negatives!

Standard Parabola Guy shifted down 3 to y = -3

y = x^2 + 1 ... + 1 ... shifts up 1

* shifts 1 towards positives!

Standard Parabola Guy shifted up 1 to y = 1

y = x^2 + k
These go together...
y is an up-n-down guy, so k is an up-n-down shift.
