When you're doing math -- especially in Algebra, you'll want to be able to know some important exponents off the top of your head.

Perfect Squares

These are from your times tables...  So, you should already know them.  (If you don't, then break out those flash cards and get to it!)

1^2 = 1 ... 2^2 = 4 ... 3^2 = 9 ... 4^2 = 16 ... 5^2 = 25 ... 6^2 = 36 ... 7^2 = 49 ... 8^2 = 64 ... 9^2 = 81 ... 10^2 = 100 ... 11^2 = 121 ... 12^2 = 144

Why are they called "perfect squares" (or just "squares")?

Because they are the area of a square!

A square with sides of length 3... area: 3^2 = 9 ... A square with sides of length 5... area: 5^2 = 25
