Ok, we saw how to figure out which fraction is bigger by just looking (see previous lesson)... But, what if you can't tell that way?

What about this one?

Which is greater: 3/4 or 7/10?

To get a feel for this before we start crunching numbers, let's look at some pizza:

         

3/4

7/10

We can see that 3/4 is greater than 7/10 ... But, we can't always be drawing pizza!

Here's what you do:

Just get a common denominator!

The quickest one to use is  

Let's make the changes...

Now, can you see which is bigger?

So 3/4 is greater than 7/10

Just like we thought!
