Soon, the student is encouraged to reach into the cage and pet the math
book. Once the student is feeling comfortable,
the math book is taken out of
the cage and placed on the floor in the middle
of the room. Again, the student
sees that the book will not attack her. The
student is now able to approach
the math book and touch it.
Next, the student is seated on the couch and the math book is placed on
the student’s lap – still closed, of course!
After a period of time, the student is
able to touch and actually open the math book.
The final stage of the therapy is when the student is able to lie on the
floor, wearing nothing but a bathing suit and
be covered with several open
math books – pages touching the skin. I think
this was one of the “gross out”
challenges on “Fear Factor.” (Sigh… I miss
that show.)
